Cogeneration, also referred to as Combined Heat and Power (CHP)
COGEN is the production of electricity while simultaneously capturing and recovering heat energy generated in the process. Cogen is a highly efficient form of energy conversion and it can achieve primary energy savings of approximately 40% compared to the separate purchase of electricity from the utility grid and a gas boiler for onsite heating. CHP plants are typically embedded close to the end user and therefore help reduce transportation and distribution losses, improving the overall performance of the electricity transmission and distribution network. For power users where security of supply is an important factor, natural gas-based Cogen systems are ideally suited as captive power plants (i.e. power plants located at site of use).
The high efficiency of a CHP plant compared with conventional utility grid electricity and site-produced heat provides a number of benefits including;
On site production of power or (DAE) decentralized autonomous energy
Reduced energy costs
Reduction in emissions compared to conventional electrical generators and onsite boiler
Built in "back-up" power generation availability at no additional cost
A member of BPS’ team would be pleased to meet with you to familiarize ourselves with your organization’s operations, specific facility characteristics and identify potential improvements to the operating efficiency of your building.
We will complete an initial summary of your facility’s energy demands, consumption patterns and costs. Our engineers will complete the analysis necessary to design and size a power plant which delivers the optimum efficiency to your facility.
BPS can assist with financing of the complete project, often on a cashflow positive basis. BPS will investigate the incentives and grants which may be available for your project. These generally require engineered technical reports and we can prepare these on your behalf. We work with a team which has deep expertise, and a proven track record of successfully being awarded the incentives applied for.
BPS will oversee the site preparation, installation and commissioning of the plant. We will interface with the utility companies, and any regulatory agencies, necessary to effect the supply and interconnection requirements. BPS will also advise and arrange the long term maintenance plan.
